I'd like to thank everyone who has supported River City Weekly over the past 3 years. I'm sure you've noticed the lack of new content on our site over the past month or so. Unfortunately, we just can't buck the economy any longer. A lot of folks have written in, telling me how disappointed they are we went to an online only publication. A few more thought there were wide corporate shoulders behind this newspaper. There weren't. I was the sole owner. We tackled a lot of opposition (mostly from other media, interestingly enough!) but we were no match for the economy - or at least the panic over the perception of the economy. In the end, I deeply appreciate the community's overwhelming support. You kept us going and made this project a joyful one. Local media came home with plenty of awards from the Idaho Press Club Best of 2008 Annual Awards last weekend. River City Weekly earned eight awards, including third place in all-around general excellence for weekly newspapers in the statewide competition. Anyone else had enough? Recession this. Bad economy that. Do we really need to hear a different angle on the “tough/bad/difficult” economy six ways on the local news — and is there really nothing else to report or talk about?
