Burtenshaw named to Idaho Falls Board of Trustees

The Idaho Falls Board of Trustees has named Lisa Burtenshaw to the Zone 3 seat being vacated by Mary Ann Smith, who is moving to Boston.

The board voted unanimously for Burtenshaw, a mother of four. Burtenshaw, then Lisa Meikle, graduated from Bonneville High School in 1992 and from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1997.

She has volunteered her time to tutor students in math, chemistry and physics since 2002 and has been involved in Edgemont Elementary School’s PTO for years, serving as president from May 2003 to May 2005 and from May 2008 to May 2009.

“I look forward to representing our community’s aspirations for our children,” Burtenshaw said. “As a mother of four, one of my primary concerns is that the Idaho Falls School District provide children with an excellent education and quality services.”

Burtenshaw will be sworn in during the Idaho Falls School Board’s annual meeting on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m. at the district office, 690 John Adams Parkway. At the meeting, Jerry Wixom and David Lent, who are beginning new terms on the board, will also take the oath of office and the board will be reorganized, with board members picking a new chair and vice chair.
